The Hamilton Mosque at 921 Heaphy Terrace, Claudelands, Hamilton will be closed for three days after Salat-ul-Isha (night prayers) tonight. The closure is required as all of New Zealand moves into COVID-19 alert level 4 from 11.59pm.
"I know this is painful for all Muslims but we can draw on our experience last year," said Asad Mohsin, president of the Waikato Muslim Association Inc.
"I pray that the COVID-19 situation improves so we can re-open the mosque as soon as possible," he said.
Further announcements about restrictions or re-opening after this time will be made in line with government direction.
